Agreement to these terms

Slab is published by One Step Forward Ventures. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use Slab.

Who can use Slab

You need to be able to form a binding agreement where you live. Slab is for personal, non-commercial use, and it’s built for generally healthy adults tracking their own protein intake.

Not medical or dietary advice

Slab is a tracker. It is not a calorie counter, a diet, a meal plan, or medical advice, and it isn’t a medical device.

The target it suggests is a rule of thumb: your body weight multiplied by a figure for what you’re training for. Those figures come from published sports-nutrition research, and the app names its sources on the screen where the number is calculated so you can go and check them. They are population averages, not a recommendation formed for you. Nothing about your height, age, medical history, kidney function, allergies or medication is taken into account, because Slab never asks.

If you’re taking a GLP-1, are pregnant, have a kidney or liver condition, or have any other clinical reason to watch your protein intake, take your number from whoever is treating you — Slab lets you type their number in instead of using its own. The app says the same thing where it asks. Nothing in Slab should delay or replace advice from a qualified professional.

Food figures are estimates

Protein values come from the USDA’s public food database, from Open Food Facts contributors, and from foods you enter yourself. They are estimates. Packaged products change formulation, community database entries contain mistakes, and a portion you eyeballed is a portion you estimated. Slab shows you exactly how each figure is calculated — see “Where the numbers come from” in the app — but doesn’t warrant that any individual figure is exact, and you shouldn’t rely on it where precision genuinely matters, such as a clinically prescribed intake.

Subscription, trial and pricing

Slab is a paid app with a three-week free trial, offered as an Apple introductory offer on both the annual and the monthly plan. Starting the trial is the purchase: it subscribes your Apple Account there and then, and Apple charges you when the three weeks end unless you cancel at least 24 hours before that. Apple emails you before it converts.

Prices are shown in the App Store before you buy and may vary by region. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can manage or cancel yours at any time in Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device — cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the period you’ve already paid for runs out.

Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store Terms of Sale. We can’t issue refunds directly, but we’re happy to help you through the process.

What happens when the trial ends

Worth stating plainly: Slab has no free tier. When a trial or subscription lapses, the app stops being usable until you subscribe — there is no reduced mode and no read-only view. Your data is not deleted. Every day you logged stays on your device and in your iCloud, and it’s all there again the moment you subscribe, or if you simply come back months later.

One price, nothing held back

There is a single subscription and it includes everything in the app. Search, barcode scanning, custom foods, history and the core count are never gated behind a higher tier, and there are no consumable purchases, credits or add-ons.

Your content is yours

The entries, custom foods and targets you create belong to you. They live on your device and in your own iCloud; we claim no ownership of them, no licence over them, and we have no access to them.

Acceptable use

When using Slab, please don’t:

Third-party data

Bundled food data comes from USDA FoodData Central, SR Legacy (2018), which is in the public domain under CC0. Barcode results come from Open Food Facts contributors and are used under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0); that attribution appears in the app, and repeating it here is part of honouring the licence. Open Food Facts is an independent community project — we don’t control its contents or its availability.

Availability and changes to the app

We work hard to keep Slab running well, but we provide it on an “as is” and “as available” basis and can’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Barcode lookups depend on a third-party service that may be slow, incomplete or unavailable. We may update, change, or discontinue features over time.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, One Step Forward Ventures is not liable for any indirect or incidental loss arising from your use of the app, including loss of data or any outcome of a dietary choice you made while using it. Because your log lives on your device and in your own iCloud, keeping iCloud sync or device backups switched on is the best protection against losing it.

Apple’s role

Slab is distributed through the App Store, but this agreement is between you and One Step Forward Ventures — not Apple. Apple has no responsibility for the app or its contents, and no obligation to provide support for it: any support question comes to us at the address below. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
